Local Authorities and Housing
In R (Ahmad) v London Borough of Newham 06/03/2009 Times Law Reports, the House of Lords heard an appeal concerning Newham Council’s policy for allocating social housing. The Council’s scheme allocated priority between similar applicants to the scheme on the basis of how long they had been on the Council’s waiting list. The House of Lords found that the Council’s policy for the allocation of said housing was not unlawful and allowed their appeal accordingly.
