My JustCite
My JustCite allows you to manage your amendment trail. You can view activity for a particular date or range of dates, save documents or searches for future reference, and tag saved items with Client Codes for better organisation.
My JustCite is available to users with a personal login. This includes:
- Users who log in with a username and password;
- Users who enter an email address as a username, but are IP recognised and so require no password; and
- Users who log in via an external authentication system such as Athens, Shibboleth or eLIS.
Views
My JustCite offeres three main Views; Recent, Saved and Client Usage.
Recent
A reverse chronological list of searches run, Information Pages viewed and full-text links clicked. Clicking on an item in the trail will re-run the search, show the Information Page or link to the Full Text, as appropriate.
By default, your research trail will be kept for at least 4 weeks. Older items will start to expire and disappear from the trail.
Each item in the trail has an icon denoting its type:
- Search
- JustCite Information Page
The initial view shows your last 7 days' activity. You can specify a different time period using the dropdown menu at the top right of the screen. Options include:
- Today
- Last 7 days
- Last 30 days
- Specific Date
- Date Range
By default, your research trail will be retained for at least 4 weeks. After that time, older items will start to expire and disappear from the trail. To keep items in the trail for longer, you need to save them. You can save any search you have run, or any document you have looked up, by clicking on the star next to its name in the trail. Saved trail items are stored permanently against your JustCite login and you can return to them at any time. They will not expire.
Saved
The Saved view displays your saved trail items in reverse chronological order.
Client Usage
The Client Usage View displays the total time you have spent under each Client Code.
Client Codes
As their name suggests, Client Codes were originally devised to correspond to solicitors’ matter codes. However, they are in fact a very versatile and powerful facility because a Client Code can be anything, such as:
- A practice area
- A case
- The name of a person
By applying a Client Code to trail items, you can categorise and manage saved searches and documents with ease. You can apply a Client Code in any one of three ways:
- Enter a code when you log in - your entire research trail for the session will be saved under that code. In addition, JustCite will run a timer for your session, which will appear under Client Usage in My JustCite.
- Click on the Client Code button on the My JustCite toolbar and select a code – the code will be applied to your entire research trail until you log out, clear the code or select a different code.
- Apply a Client Code retrospectively from My JustCite by ticking the boxes next to the relevant trail items and selecting the appropriate action from the Client Code Actions drop-down.
You can then filter your saved trail items by Client Code using the links on the left of the My JustCite screen. Therefore, Client Codes make it easy to find saved searches or documents by practice area, or research commissioner, or any categorisation system you choose to use.
