Installing the J-Link browser add-on

J-Link logo

System requirements

The current version of J-Link is intended for use with Internet Explorer 6 or 7 running under Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Installation

After downloading the SetupJLink.exe file, double-click it, and follow the on-screen instructions to install J-Link on your computer.

When the installation has finished, you should see an orange J-Link button in your browser:

J-Link button in the Internet Explorer 6 Toolbar

J-Link button in the Internet Explorer 6 Toolbar (Windows XP)

J-Link button in the Internet Explorer 7 Command Bar

J-Link button in the Internet Explorer 7 Command Bar (Windows Vista)

If you cannot see the J-Link button, please read on.

J-Link button not visible after installation

If your browser was open when you installed J-Link, please close it and then open it again; this will probably make the J-Link button appear.

If you are using Windows XP and you still cannot see the J-Link button, the most likely explanation is that your browser window is too narrow to show all of the buttons; try making the browser window wider.

If you are using Windows Vista and you still cannot see the J-Link button, the most likely explanation is that your Command Bar is too small to show all of the icons it contains. Move your mouse over the separator at the left-hand side of the Command Bar so that it changes to a left-right arrow:

Resizing the Command Bar

and then click and drag to the left until all of the icons appear:

Resized Command Bar

If the J-Link icon is still not visible, please read on.

On rare occasions, installing J-Link does not make the button appear in your web browser. If this happens to you, then please follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the Toolbar (Internet Explorer 6) or the Command Bar (Internet Explorer 7)
  2. Select the Customize… or Customize Command Bar option
  3. If a sub-menu appears in Vista, select Add or Remove Commands…

Customising the Toolbar

  1. In the list of buttons on the left of the Customize Toolbar dialog box, click J-Link (you will probably need to scroll down to see it)
  2. Click the Add button

Adding the J-Link button to the Toolbar

  1. Click the Close button

The J-Link button should now be visible in your browser.
