Pipped to the post by a worthy rival

14th March 2008

Down to the last three from a dozen or so nominations, Justis Publishing – in the shape of JustCite – was pipped to the post by Berg Publishers as Publishing Technology E-Publisher at this year’s IPG Awards. Competition was exceptionally tough, with the judges commenting on the high standard of entries in this category. “Independent publishers are clearly thinking very creatively about new technologies”, they said.

Winners across the board were announced at a gala dinner in Brighton on Saturday 8th March, attended by Justis Publishing’s managing director, Masoud Gerami. Though obviously disappointed by the result, he said the event “was very impressive and professionally organised”. He speculated that our innovation may at first glance have seemed less clear than those of traditional book publishers, the IPG’s usual stock in trade. He added that next year a revitalized submission would be made, capitalizing on our plans to collaborate with traditional publishers on the verification of citations and information collection through JustCite and its associated tools, not to mention the ongoing refinement of JustCite itself.

As well as recognizing cutting-edge technology, the IPG is keen to emphasize the importance of increasing the accessibility and reach of electronic products. Though still in its infancy, Justis Publishing’s customer training programme is well placed to deliver on this front for the 2009 contest, as is our drive to increase exposure through editorial in third-party media, such as the Student Law Review.

Like we said in our admittedly ill-fated last installment, watch this space; before you know it, we’ll be doing the pipping.
