JustCite Technical RequirementsFurther InformationMost people with recent versions of Windows using Internet Explorer or Firefox web browsers will be able to use JustCite without needing to make any alterations to their computer or web browser. If you use Macintosh OS X, then you will need to install the Firefox browser. For a quick automatic system check, please visit the technical requirements homepage. For more detail and some explanation, particularly if you are having problems using JustCite, please check the following requirements.
1. Screen settings (resolution and colours)Your screen must be set to a minimum resolution of 1024 × 768 (width × height). Almost all LCD screens that are 15 inches or larger, and almost all CRT screens that are 17 inches or larger, will already be set to a suitable resolution. We recommend a minimum colour depth of 8 bits, which allows 256 different colours. Almost all screens will already have a suitable colour setting. For Windows users, we recommend the default Small Fonts setting. Windows users can check their settings by right-clicking on the desktop, clicking Properties, and then clicking the Settings tab. (For Windows Vista, click Personalize, then Display Settings.)
Macintosh users can check their settings by clicking the System Preferences icon in the Dock, and then clicking Displays.
2. Operating systemsThe version of JustCite released in May 2007 has been tested with web browsers running under Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.4. We expect JustCite to work under Mac OS X 10.2 or higher (using Firefox), Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows NT 4, but these operating systems have not been thoroughly tested. In theory, you should be able to use JustCite with Unix or Linux if you use the Firefox browser, but we have not tested this, and our Help Desk cannot provide support for problems related to operating systems other than 32-bit Windows and Mac OS X 10. Windows 95 (and earlier), Mac OS 9 (and earlier), Mac OS X 10.0 and Mac OS X 10.1 are not suitable, because none of the web browsers available for these operating systems can be used with JustCite. 3. Web browsersJustCite is accessed via the Internet, using a standard web browser. However, web browsers do not include all of the functionality that is required for a feature-rich search and display system, and so Justis Publishing provides the missing functions via software that runs on our web server and generates HTML that is sent to your browser. Some web browsers are more amenable than others to this technology, so please consult the tables of supported web browsers for Windows and for Mac OS X. In order to view full-text documents in a separate browser window, or to view the Help in its pop-up window, you may need to configure the pop-up blockers in your browser or in a toolbar. 3.1 Microsoft WindowsThe versions under which we test web browsers are Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
You can check the version of your web browser by clicking its “Help” menu and selecting the “About” item. Some customers have experienced problems when trying to access JustCite from AOL and CompuServe. 3.2. Macintosh OS X 10The only version of Mac OS under which we have tested web browsers with JustCite is Mac OS X 10.4. Other versions of the operating system may be suitable, but have not been tested. None of the browsers for Mac OS X 10.1, Mac OS X 10.0, Mac OS 9.x and earlier are suitable.
4. JavaScriptJustCite uses JavaScript to provide essential parts of the functionality of the service. If your firewall does not allow JavaScript from the Web in general, then you will need to ask your network administrator to enable JavaScript for the JustCite website.
5. CookiesJustCite uses cookies to provide some of the functionality of the service. These cookies do not store any personal data about users of the service. Your saved searches and email alerts are not stored in cookies, they are stored on the JustCite web server.
6. ActiveXIf you use the Internet Explorer web browser for Windows, then ActiveX controls need to be enabled (this is the default setting).
If you use Firefox or any other supported browser, then JustCite does not use ActiveX controls. |
