Singapore’s premier provider of legal information teams up with Justis Publishing

29th November 2006

Electronic legal information publisher Justis Publishing Ltd has signed an agreement with the Singapore Academy of Law(SAL) to supply the JustCite service as well as the British Incorporated Council of Law Reporting (ICLR) products through SAL’s LawNet service. These ICLR products include the authoritative series The Law Reports for the United Kingdom dating back to 1865.

The ICLR has a history spanning more than 140 years. It was established to select and publish cases of legal significance “solely in the interest of the profession and the public”. This is an important role in a legal system that relies on precedents. Justis Publishing Ltd has worked with ICLR to manage the electronic publishing of the ICLR law reports for more than a decade.

LawNet is the premier provider of legal information in Singapore. More than 70% of all practising lawyers in Singapore maintain a subscription to the Legal Workbench, which includes, among other resources, legislation and reports of Singapore cases. “This collaboration is just another step in our continuous enhancement and development of our services” said Mr Tan Ken Hwee, Project Director, LawNet. “By working with Justis Publishing Ltd, we are able to offer English case law. Our subscribers agree that this will be a very important addition as cases from the United Kingdom are, by far, the single largest body of non-Singapore law cited by counsel and judges”, he added.

The Justis Publishing data will be integrated into the Legal Workbench, through the use of an API that provides deep integration technologies and was created by the Justis Development Team. This will allow Legal Workbench subscribers to seamlessly access U.K. cases through the same interface that they use for Singapore law. The integration effort has begun, and is expected to be completed by early next year.

Mr Masoud Gerami, Managing Director of Justis Publishing Ltd said, “We are very pleased to be working with the Singapore Academy of Law and we’re looking forward to having our content feature in the LawNet Legal Workbench”. Justis Publishing Ltd and SAL share a commitment to providing the highest-quality experience possible for consumers and look forward to creating richer and easier ways for consumers to access premium legal and commercial content electronically.
